The 1792 Style way to enhance anyone’s entertaining spot
‘Tis the season for holiday gift guides and we here at 1792 Style are jumping in on the game. Naturally, our inclination was to gear our roundup of goods towards the home bar because, aside from a few bottles of good bourbon, it’s a spot people rarely shop for themselves.
Think about it. Most anyone with a fancy set of glasses will tell you it’s because they were on a wedding registry. An expensive humidor? Father’s day. Crystal decanter? Housewarming go-to. And no one, literally no one, drinks enough champagne to justify personally purchasing a bucket specifically for the bottle.
So we thought about the things every good bar needs, but not all of them have — the elements that truly make it a place worth hanging around. Music. Lighting. Books. Objects meant for entertainment as well as stuff that’s just plain old nice to look at. Of course we threw in a set of old fashioned tumblers for good measure, but hey, single people deserve to have fancy glasses too.
A good book and a good drink go hand in hand. A Man and His Watch by Matt Hranek, who we interviewed about cocktail attire this past spring, is an insightful look at the relationship between fine timepieces and the men who wear them. A sharp addition to any bar top.
This Bang & Olufsen speaker has out of this world style and the sound to match. Gift it to someone who’s tired of yelling at “Alexa.”
Baccarat tumblers for the friend who didn’t get married.
An oversize ashtray is ideal for cigar aficionados and can double as a vide poche should they decide to quit.
Leave it to Tiffany to create legos for adults. Fun to fuss with and a pleasure to look at.
Gift someone coasters with a custom monogram or cheeky four letter word.
Everyone appreciates a fancy candle. This one, from the storied french brand Cire Trudon, pays respect to one of its original fans — Napoleon Bonaparte.
A bar with bare walls is no bar at all. Send a shot of Cassius Clay to a true champ and a bottle of bourbon to boot — M. Ali, a native Kentuckian, would surely approve.
Not everyone knows what “good lighting” is, but you do. This modern lamp is a solid choice for the person in need of a little mood lighting in their life, particularly he who enjoys an old fashioned after dark.
Whether it’s for a round of poker or a game of solitaire, everybody should have a stack of cards stashed behind the bar.
